Belinda Burchell

Artist  and Designer


Belinda Batt (nee Burchell), studied Fine Art at the Ruth Prowse School of Art from 1979-1982 under the tuition of Artists such as Eric Laubscher, David Brown, Jan Visser, Edwine Simon and Stephanie Watson. She returned to the Ruth Prowse in 1988 to study textile Design, a diploma she completed in 1990.


Belinda spent 9 years working full-time as a Textile Designer and worked for companies such as Misha Design Studio, Modotex and the Frame Group designing for organisations such as Home Choice, Debonair, Woolworths and St Ledger and Viney, amongst others. 


In the year 2000 Belinda changed direction and began Teaching Art in Schools. She has taught children ranging from grades 1 through to grade 12  at varying intervals for the last 15 years and this has included teaching design to grade 10,11 and 12 for the IEB .


During the last 5 years Belinda has set up a studio at home where she paints between classes and along with her Husband, Jeff Batt, produces Custom designed Textiles and Graphic Design work to order as well as doing Silk Screen printing onto Fabric.


Belinda has always had a passion for Theatre, and has had a life-time of experience in the field.  She has partaken substantially in Amateur Theatre where she has been involved on and off stage as as an actress and as a set designer, working alongside an eclectic mix of professional and amateur performers.  She has been acknowledged for her achievements in this field.


She has also directed a number of large scale musical productions and plays for various age groups.
